I research and teach Old English, Middle English, Tolkien and Medieval Studies at Leiden University, The Netherlands. In April 2016, I completed my Ph.D. project on the cultural conceptualisation of old age in Anglo-Saxon England at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS). This website provides an overview of my publications; the conferences I am involved in; the courses I teach; and my efforts to popularize the knowledge about early medieval England in the Low Countries and beyond. The website also features a blog with which I hope to inform and entertain all who are interested in the history, culture and language of the Anglo-Saxons.
In addition to the Ph.D., I hold B.A.s in English Language and Culture and Medieval History, an M.A. in English Language and Culture and an M.Phil. in Medieval History. A full CV is available here: Curriculum Vitae (7 July, 2018).
